Two prolific producers known for their avant-garde approach, blurring boundaries between house, hip-hop and disco joined forces to deliver tight beat soulful house jam with nostalgic radiance showered with wobbly fluttering atmosphere and blissed out keys carried by buttered slap bassline.

The A2 position is reserved for Mexican nu disco master Hotmood, who has been dominating the disco charts for several years. He's back with "Hard Feelings," a funk-geared groove infused with bluesy keys and a head-bopping drum groove. Vocals fit perfectly into drops, which build energy for the next hard-hitting section bump.

On the B1 flip side sits a dynamic duo from Moscow and Saint Petersburg Lowres, who is well versed and versatile, bringing some analog heat with the track "Slishish" . With sounds that harken back to the glory days of 90s French disco house. A track with a fat bottomed beat and a dusty cosmic atmosphere that is warped around near-perfect bassline grooves that seduce and tease. Lowres showed their sampling skills and technique by perfectly blending phased-out "Stardust" like guitar in warm air.

Erik Ellman, whose releases on SlothBoogie and Berlin House Music have made him a well-known name in the underground scene, contributed the song "Tribal Disco" to spot B2. This song's main driving forces are disco-inspired percussion rhythms, soulful pitched vocals, and strings, which together create the ideal fusion of disco and soul. Its key samples, which draw inspiration from everything from "Motown" hustle to disco house mood, ensure this.

Mastering: Dima K
Illustration: Kengo Shiroshita
Description : ProZoo
P&D: VinylFuture Distribution

Special thanks to Gazzz696, Maslow Unknown, Bombyce, Radio Electronica Jena for the premieres.

There's much to enjoy across the EP, beginning with the musically expansive and intricately produced 'Janwary', a superb sample-house excursion that wraps filtered orchestral samples and twinkling jazz piano around a chunky deep house groove. Title track 'Mechta' is a deeper and warmer excursion notable for the pair's use of interesting percussion sounds, while 'Morozenhoe' sits somewhere between dub house and Afro-tinged jazz-house. Also impressive is closing cut 'Trenerovka', another patchwork sample-house excursion featuring typically sub-heavy bottom-end.

The album, composed of best tracks from early DIY-releases by Zimmer‑G. The correct pronounciation of the title is English but it looks exactly like “Peace to the World” in Russian.

Zimmer-G — Mupy Mup

Mupy Mup by Voltanov & Zimmer-G

This music was recorded in the period between 2001 and 2006, making “Mupy Mup” a collection of the best tracks from the two unofficial albums released at that time. Aside from several tracks that appeared on some compilations, this material was not presented to the general public before, residing within circles of friends.

Light, fair sadness is what distinguishes this release. A kind that comes when we look at an old photo album. A good feeling burdened by the fact that past cannot be reverted. However, the music carries a faint optimistic hint at the same time.

Situations this music suits depend on the listener’s temper — it may complement someone who’s falling asleep or provide an unobtrusive background for work. According to the composer, the only place this music does not belong to is a dancefloor.

“It is a great miracle that we appeared from the abyss of the void in the first place. Moreover, our daily lives are filled with small wonderful things that we tend not to notice, what, however, doesn’t make them any less significant. These small things is what inspires me.”

The name “Mupy Mup” comes from a popular in the 80s Soviet slogan (“Miru Mir!”), and this association is supported by the extensive use of samples from Soviet movies. A kind of transliteration gives us a mysterious Mupy Mup — a fantasy land from the musician’s childhood, that special place in his soul that keeps fairy tales and pleasant, naive experiences. Characters who live in this land are depicted on the album cover.

It was believed, that any automobile with the letters KJ on a registration plate belongs to the mafia. That doubtful assumption had hazy origins, but kept all the boys horrified, for real. Every kid of the place knew the rule: if you see a car with the sinister letters, you run. Who knows what those mafiosos are capable of, right?

Of course, growing up did the trick: guys have finally put the legend in doubt. Ivan Voltanov, a man behind the Zimmer-G alias, was one of those guys. He remembers the moment when he asked himself: “Wait a minute. Why am I afraid of two symbols?” That was the intermediate state of him becoming halfway more rational.

Transient phases are important for how things are getting done, in general. They are like tiny railway stations: unpopular, but necessary for the whole line to exist. They are like cider: this drink is just halfway between the apple and calvados, but can we enjoy it? You bet!

The music of this album is halfway between the bedroom and the dancefloor — which is an interesting place to be in. And this very text is halfway between bearable and too long — so, it’s better to end it right now.

One might think that this is just yet another remix compilation nobody needs. Well, we have a response to this: our approach is to show that remixes can be interesting, elaborate and inventive. We are not interested in club-oriented dance versions. We want you to enjoy the results of thoughtful artistic reinterpretation.

It is always interesting to see how various creative minds work differently with the same material. Some of them concentrate on elements of rhythm, some prefer to deal with melodies, some deconstruct the whole composition on the level of sound and then gather something completely new from it. And the result is always unpredictable! That’s what we love the best. And our belief is that you love this as well.

A place that is designed especially for people to get new stuff (and to waste their time)! It embraces so many thrilling things! Holiday sales and loyalty cards, merchandising and marketing, fast food and lousy coffee, corporate guidelines and operating procedures… Not to speak of advertisement panels and elevator music! Lovely!

It is hard to find a better target for our sonic arrows of mockery. So we have released them.

Here comes another product for you to consume — this discreetly charming music compilation. Be sure to get this one. You know you have to own it. Of course, that doesn’t mean that the authors didn’t put effort into making it. A little-known rule of the art of cinema says — and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t extrapolate it into music — that it is much harder to make the audience laugh than to make it cry. Tru dat, as they say!

Some people still think that music cannot be funny and laughter-provoking. May the Lord (any lord, in fact, a landlord is just fine) judge them. By no means can we agree with those people, that is for sure.

Anyway, it’s time for an artistic statement. Here it is:

“I’m using my only hit ‘Semolina Porridge’ as a bait to lure naive listeners into the wilderness of psychosis, ha ha ha!”

— Yellowhead
